This is not one of John Cusack's greatest moments. He plays a high school senior named Danny Bartlett. When he fails his chemistry final, he has to stay behind during vacation when he was supposed to have flown out with his girlfriends' family to the Caribbean.

Danny undergoes what some would call a 'lucky break,' and the hot pursutie ensues. For the remainder of the film, it's all about mishaps and misconnections. These will keep Danny apart from his loved ones and contribute to his steely resolve--which he will need (in spades) if he's going to come to the aid of his girlfriend's endangered family.

Had this film not had Cusack at the helm, it would have been a miserable failure.
